Background & Planning

This trip was conceived during the Covid lockdown by a bunch of drunken fellow campers.

The plan ... get to the Cape York tip and return.

See as much as possible in the time we can each have off work, have some adventures ... but get back in one piece.

How did we do the planning :

We set up a FB event and invited all the people we knew may be interested.
We did this a good year in advance, as the trip to the Cape can be a significant investment in time of work. This gave everyone as much time to plan leave and finances as possible.

Costs and Timing

This is a tricky one. It is different for everyone. The most expensive thing we figure is fuel, then food, then camping fees / permits. (excluding any maintenance or breakdowns of course).
Personally we have budgeted bout $2500 for fuel. A schedule of our costs will be uploaded following the trip.

Some of us settled on 4 weeks total, other went for 6 weeks round trip.

As a rule of thumb we allowed 3 days (ie two nights) to get to Port Douglas from Brisbane, and similar in return.

Some of the 6 weekers have opted to travel back via Mt Isa, Longreach and Carnarvon Gorge. This round trip looks as below.

Accomodation

Some of us are choosing to take Camper Trailers, Others rooftop tents. See each Team HERE
