Well we have settled down a little from the shock.
We are quite impressed with the camp (Beachcomber), we have god access to laundry, amazing clean showers, a powered site (ie. air con!). Allie is loving it lol.
We have also had a call from the Mechanic. We are now looking at a reconditioned Engine $7500 with 12 mths warranty (unlimited kms). It will have to come up from Brisbane - Fitted it will be $13,500 all up.
We'll pop into Toyota (Tully) and have a chat also.
Sounds like the engine may be here Friday-ish, so estimated time is in the region of 10 days or so staying here. We are thinking we can continue our trip. We have to "run in" the new engine for 1000 kms or so before towing, and then do oil change etc. So a few more days is likely in the area.
We'll probably still do the Cape, but skip most of the OTT water crossings.
It will mean we'll have the van with us most of the time up there - except for the odd 4WD play.
We are not sure where the rest of the group will be as we've not heard much, but hopefully we'll see them somewhere. It means a lot to us that they enjoy their trip and we'll still get to see some of the cape. At least thats the plan at this stage. Im hoping they send lots of photos I can add to the blog.
We had a nice walk around Cardwell this morning and did over 18,000 steps !
A walk out to the end of the Pier.
Also had a nice walk along the beach. We were warned to stay away from the water.
We found the old Post Office (Cardwell Bush Telegraph) and took a look. It was awesome and really worth a look.
Im not sure if this is the actual old Postie or not
The rental car is organised for Fri , Sat and Sun - we have split our 6 days into (2 x 3 days). A bonus is that originally we were going to skip the Tablelands and Paronella Park with the group, but we'll now be able to go to those - maybe as day trips.
So hang in there readers - more to come - we are not down and out yet.
